Speaking of Rotary friends, it was with a heavy heart when I learned, upon looking for a current email, that Joan Barsotti had died in September, 2010. I was told that her heart just stopped for no apparent reason. Joan, Charles and I, and Carol Mathis had a bond within the Placerville, Camino, Apple Hill region (between Sacramento and Reno) for writing and art and food. Joan had teamed up with Carol Mathis for illustrations of Joan’s numerous children’s picture books. Joan’s award-winning books are marvels of fun and cultural understanding. Joan loved going to class rooms with her books and stories. Barsotti Ranch produced the most marvelous freshly pressed natural juices. A trip to the farm up in the foothills is always pleasant.
