A Primary Mission of the Council is to promote effective means of surface preparation in the maintenance industry using water and water/abrasive blasting techniques.

1.1 Cleaning, Surface Preparation and Painting Requirements for: Ballast Tanks, Collection, Holding and Transfer Tanks, Compensating Fuel Tanks, and High Traffic Interior Decks.

MSDS and manufacturer’s ASTM F 718 sheets, Shipbuilders and Marine Paints and Coating Product / Procedure Data Sheet for coating systems being applied for specified area.

WHEN USING SHERWIN WILLIAMS DURA-PLATE UHS, IN TANKS WHERE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE EXCEEDS 85ºF THE USE OF PLURAL COMPONENT EQUIPMENT (PCE) IS MANDATORY.

NOTE: The working area may need to be broken down into zones to allow the broadcasting of the aggregate and application of the top coat prior to Intermediate Coat loosing it’s tacky state.

7.13.2 Apply an Intermediate Coat of CSF GlassFlake 5487 to achieve 5 mils DFT IAW paragraph 12.

12.1 Check for evidence of Amine Bloom such as discoloration of paint coating or clear oily film.

12.3 CHECKPOINT (Intermediate Coat): Verify intermediate coat is applied IAW Table 631-11-1, IV (Cure/Post Cure).

12.3.1 (Holiday Inspection): Accomplish a visual holiday inspection of intermediate coat.

12.3.2 (Dry Film Thickness): Accomplish dry film thickness measurements IAW Ref.

16.1 CHECKPOINT (Finished Painted Surfaces): Accomplish IAW Table 631-11-1, IV (Cure/Post Cure).

16.1.3 In order to pass the checkpoint, any Appendices required by the certified coating inspector shall be up to date or completed and submitted to QA.
